By 2021, we will...

Recruit, train, and employ a total of 15 STEM teachers, who represent varied racial, cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and socio-economic diversity. To make our work more effective, we intend to provide ongoing professional development for all STEM Teacher Candidates (TCs) in culturally relevant pedagogy and culturally responsive teaching utilizing currently existing faculty expertise via RU centers.

Expand our clinical partnerships K-12 to include an additional 5 high-needs districts. To make our work more effective, we intend to provide unique F2F and online training, mentoring, and monitoring for the Collaborating Teachers (CTs) who serve as clinical leaders for TCs in those districts, to ensure seamless application of training concepts.

Partner with additional P-12 STEM teachers, high-needs districts, and other colleges across RU to offer a minimum of twenty interdisciplinary STEM content focused courses for elementary educators. To make our work more effective, we intend to develop a series of 3 Certificates of Undergraduate Study (CUGS)- 12 courses, to increase interdisciplinary STEM content expertise for elementary educators.

Is there anything else you intend to do to maximize your impact via the network?

Recognizing our goal for securing more STEM teachers, we intend to expand our network of existing Professional Development Schools (PDSs) to include all related secondary STEM areas as well as formalize our partnerships with existing and new high-needs schools emphasizing STEM within a social justice context through the lens of culturally relevant practices.

Recognizing our goal for securing more STEM teachers, we intend to communicate our work through the Center for Access, Success, and Equity and RU STEM Center, to target community needs in: 1) developing knowledge of current education reforms addressed in new standards and curriculum revision; 2) coaching on-site in the schools; and 3) expanding the practice of hosting college courses on-site with clinical partners.
