Non-Profit Organization
California STEM Network
Oakland, CA
By 2021, we will...
Have in place a fully-funded state program to provide grants and/or loan forgiveness to each student enrolled in a professional preparation program leading to a preliminary teaching credential if the student commits to teaching in a STEM field in California for four years.
Have the resources, capacity and expertise to provide high-quality, standards-aligned professional development in all STEM subjects to all teachers in districts severed by our county offices of education.
Have an indicator for the California Science Test that measures student proficiency in science, with verifiable and valid data, included on our School Accountability Dashboard.
Is there anything else you intend to do to maximize your impact via the network?
Focus on strategies that will incentivize, through grants and/or loan forgiveness, more students, particularly those pursuing STEM degrees, to enter and remain in the teaching profession.
Work more closely with our partners, especially teachers unions, to support the practice of rewarding those who enter the teaching profession and teach in STEM subjects with bonuses and/or differential pay.
Work with our with institutions of higher education to elevate the importance of schools of education and support collaboration with faculty and content experts in STEM disciplines from other departments of the institution.
